Biography:
I started my journey with cardiovascular education in my teen years teaching community responders and law enforcement officers. During my college years I worked and taught emergency medical technician before becoming a Registered Nurse. I have nearly 20 years of bedside nursing where I worked post-surgical, ICU, emergency, trauma, and cardiac cath lab. Before transitioning to in-hospital quality improvement work leading efforts for hospital wide STEMI systems of care and cardiology accreditation.
After being introduce to STEMI systems of care work I took a job with the American Heart Association where I lead a regional effort for aligning regional STEMI systems of care among 26 hospitals, and numerous EMS and Fire Agencies. My work continued with the AHA working on Get with the Guidelines projects, as well as community cardiovascular projects around cholesterol and hypertension management before transitioning to the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science team.
Through my work with ECC I have had extensive experience in guidelines development, scientific statement management, CPR education development and community implementation of CPR training. Additionally, I supported ILCOR in their evaluation and development of consensus of science and treatment recommendations.
Nearly a year ago I transitioned to being the Director of Science for Adult Healthcare programs for the American Red Cross. I work closely with the Red Cross science volunteers to review ILCOR science and develop the American Red Cross guidelines and courses.
